Why are 304 stainless steel screws magnetic?

1. Fluctuations in chemical composition occur during the smelting process, causing a small amount of ferrite and martensite to be present in austenitic stainless steels such as 304, resulting in weak magnetism. 2. 304 stainless steel screws undergo cold working during the thread rolling process, and the structure will also transform to martensite. The greater the cold working deformation, the more transformation to martensite will occur, and the more magnetic the steel will be. However, these changes are physical and will not affect the chemical properties of the screws, such as corrosion resistance, rust resistance, and weldability. People often use magnets to attract stainless steel materials to verify their quality and authenticity. If there is no attraction, the material is non-magnetic and considered good and genuine; if there is attraction, the material is magnetic and considered fake and counterfeit. Actually, this is a one-sided and incorrect method of discrimination.
